Designed by the legendary Chicago architectural firm Holabird and Root, International House is a nine-story Gothic building that soars above the Midway Plaisance. A residential tower reaches another three stories beyond the main height of the building, boasting stunning views across campus and towards Lake Michigan. Although the exterior echoes the surrounding gothic campus, the design also takes inspiration from art deco and colonial revival styles.

Funded by John D. Rockefeller in 1932, the University of Chicago’s International House is one of 19 International Houses worldwide with the mission of enabling students and scholars from around the world to live and learn together in a diverse residential community that builds lifelong qualities of leadership, respect, and friendship.
