The Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery, completed in 2009, follows a contemporary template. Constructed mostly of glass, the building’s laboratories are largely open inside, and its interior walls are transparent. The crystalline nature of the building fosters a sense of community and connectedness unlike many solitary research spaces. Knapp’s 10 stories sit on a partly limestone base, which blends with the Gothic buildings of the neighborhood.
